The People of Burning Man: Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

Dr. Seuss’s last published book ‘Oh, the Places You’ll Go!’ has to be one of the most inspirational books ever written. Ostensibly, it’s a children’s book, one of few words and brightly coloured pictures of stripy mountains and boys in old-fashioned yellow bed caps ( standard ‘ever so slightly hallucinogenic’ children’s illustrations) , but the themes are timeless. The protagonist, a young boy, referred to as ‘you’ faces challenges in an uplifting exploration of what life holds, leaving you with feeling that you can succeed “Yes, you will indeed. (98¾% guaranteed).”

Though I’m sure most of you have already read the book, probably when you were leaving school like me, I came across this video earlier today of the people at Burning Man reading the story and it reminded of just how wonderful it is. Even if the story doesn’t appeal, it’s worth watching just for the bizarre goers of Burning Man. (Unfortunately the video doesn’t explain what Burning Man is any better than the event’s website. One can only speculate….fancy dress in the desert?)
